Si Diodes

It is one of the basic components of power electronics: The Si diode (silicon diode). Its tasks include rectifying the current, decoupling it and protecting it from overvoltage. It consists of a silicon crystal to which special dopants are added to create two different regions: an n-conducting and a p-conducting region. This doping enables the diode to conduct current in only one direction. In the forward direction, the current flows unhindered from the anode to the cathode, whereas in the reverse direction the current flow is blocked.
