Film capacitors
Film capacitors use plastic film as an insulating dielectric. The thin films are wound or layered to form a capacitor. The larger the surface area and the smaller the distance between the electrodes, the higher the capacitance values. This is why the film is drawn extremely thin. The loss voltages (via the ESR) and the inductance (ESL) are kept low by the many individual capacitors connected in parallel within the wound film. This is why, unlike electrolytic capacitors, they are effective up to high frequency ranges.
